Ice makers fail more often than any other refrigerator subsystem. We dedicate a whole page to them because the repair is rarely just one part. A bad fill valve clogs the inlet; the inlet failure starves the harvest cycle; the harvest cycle wears the ejector motor; the motor stress cracks the housing. Catch it early and you replace one $40 valve. Wait too long and you replace the whole ice maker assembly.
The fill valve is restricted, almost always by calcium buildup from hard water. Eastern NC well-water homes see this most. We replace the valve with an OE part and recommend installing an inline filter if you do not already have one.
Samsung put the ice maker in the fresh-food side on the RF23M, RF28R and RF29A French-door lines. There is a heater inside the ice room. When it fails, the room frosts, the auger jams, and ice stops coming out. The fix is a defrost, heater replacement, and sometimes a full ice maker assembly. We carry the parts.
Most GE refrigerators have a modular ice maker. The control module is the single most-replaced part. We carry the OE module and can usually swap it in twenty minutes.
Older KitchenAid and Whirlpool side-by-sides have a flex tray ice maker. The harvest motor wears, the cycle stalls partway. Either replace the motor or the whole assembly.
Scotsman, U-Line, Marvel and KitchenAid stand-alone units have a small compressor, a condenser fan, and an internal pump. Failures track to the pump and the float assembly most often. We service all four brands.
